Day 99 - Becoming, unapologetically

Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson A big step toward obtaining your goals and dreams is acknowledging and reframing your own thoughts - thoughts create our realities, but most people don't even hear the nasty things they tell themselves, and if they do, they believe them. So, this first step is requisite to understanding your responsibility - the control of your own thoughts and feelings. So now, what about other people and the things they tell you about going after your dreams? "It's never going to work."  "That's a bad idea." "Are you serious?" You can simply not tell others about your dreams, and that's fine - but, that also means you are not fully involved in creating a reality where those around you are supporting you. After awhile, when your decisions have outward results, there is no longer a way to hide, eventually, you will have to confront these peo...

Day 86 - Who are you listening to?

“How many things have to happen to you before something occurs to you?” ~ Robert Frost Are you listening to people who are not living how you want to live ? Are you listening to your own excuses? Are you listening to people who are truly happy and successful?   What does success look like to you? What does happiness look like to you? Are you taking any steps towards that success and happiness?    When do you start realizing that what you're doing is not working towards where you actually want to be?   Perhaps you have pockets of happiness and success that you are afraid to lose if you start doing other things. I'm here to tell you that there is no way you will lose the parts of your life that you love when you start working towards new aspirations. When I 'gave up' music, I didn't give it up; I gave up trying to be a touring musician, I gave up trying to learn the business of music because those things did not make me happy - I realized that it was the music itself ...

Day 79 - Good Vibrations

Everything in life is vibration ~ Einstein en·er·gy   / ˈenərjē / noun noun: energy 1 . the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity.   vibe / vīb / noun noun: vibe ; plural noun: vibes 1 . a person's emotional state or the atmosphere of a place as communicated to and felt by others. When people talk about raising vibrations, what do they actually mean?  We are all beings of frequency. Everything seems solid, but at the molecular level, everything is motion. When we are in different states of mind, our bodies respond accordingly and that can be felt and seen not only by ourselves but by others. Raising our vibration simply means honing frequencies, an ability to sustain positive moods and energy levels. When the body is working optimally, our moods are genuinely more loving and content. But, we also know that people can have good vibrations while they are sick, so their state of mind is vibrating at higher levels regardless of what th...

Day 72 - The Plateau

The dreaded Plateau.  I just hit it, earlier than I would've thought. It seems with the quick weight loss (I've been intermittent fasting, cutting out snacks and exercising) some extra effort is needed at this point. However, I just came across an article that states Cheat Days are important! Ah-ha! Of course I immediately went to that solution.  The important thing for my health journey is strength and endurance, so the weight loss is secondary - but when you see dramatic changes in your body, your mind automatically wants to keep going in the same direction. This is about a long haul, not short-term benefits (I keep reminding myself).  I'm not a calorie counter. It's a hassle and something I don't want to do, but I can assume that certain foods and portions are loaded with calories, so I consider this now. In the past, I didn't even think about it and over time larger portions and seconds of a particularly yummy meal became habit.  I'm also considering t...

Day 64 - A Case for Vanity

" Vanity is the quality of having too much pride one's appearance or accomplishments or a bathroom cabinet that has a mirror and a sink. An example of vanity is a girl thinking she is the prettiest in the entire school. An example of vanity is where a woman might put on her makeup."  The above quote is on the top of a Google search on vanity. Really? A mirror and a sink? A woman putting on her makeup?  Be A Lady They Said Be a lady they said. Your skirt is too short. Your shirt is too low. Your pants are too tight. Don’t show so much skin. Don’t show your thighs. Don’t show your breasts. Don’t show your midriff. Don’t show your cleavage. Don’t show your underwear. Don’t show your shoulders. Cover up. Leave something to the imagination. Dress modestly. Don’t be a temptress. Men can’t control themselves. Men have needs. You look frumpy. Loosen up. Show some skin. Look sexy. Look hot. Don’t be so provocative. You...

Day 57 - Aging without Losing it!

"There IS a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will have truly defeated 'age'." ~~Sophia Loren When we hit adulthood in our 20s, there is a sense of relief - you no longer have to do what your told, you no longer have to ask permissions, you are free to make decisions and mistakes on your own. Although, many of us ask advice from our parents, grandparents, and older generations, because we understand that with experience comes wisdom/knowledge/perspective... When we hit what I now consider the 'real' adulthood in our 30s, there is a further sense of relief - you have now gained some insight into your own being and are fully functioning with the confidence of some lived experience. And we still seek advice, not just from older generations but from our peers. When we hit maturity in our 40s, there is a certain sense of responsibility tow...

Day 51 - Form & Function

"I inhabit my body with inexpressible satisfaction; both its weariness and its refreshments - sweet to me" ~Thoreau  The mind-body connection was for me a metaphysical expedition in a happenstance vessel. In other words, mind over matter, our psychological and spiritual awareness affects our physical health - which I still believe. However, reversing that notion to include its opposite has been a eureka moment, meaning our physical awareness also affects our psychological and spiritual health. I heard it all the time, understood it on an intellectual level, but never on a physical one, until now.  The symbiotic relationship between consciousness and corporeal existence is always there, whether we think about it or not. The choices we make create how we function in our form, and our form facilitates how we function in the world. "The brain and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine and immune systems, and indeed, all the organs of our body a...
