Homemaking - Matriarchal community
We've been sold the idea that caretaking and homemaking are for the less ambitious folks in our society; those who don't have the means or wherewithal for 'real success' - yet it is the very nature of homemaking/caregiving that creates environments everyone can thrive in.
When comfort and needs at home are met with the love and commitment of a caretaker, the family becomes whole (this includes chosen families, not just traditional ones), the community prospers, and society progresses; as those who are nurtured outshine those who are not.
Outsourcing the essential elements of homemaking creates a commodification of these roles broken down into unemotional categories of cooking, cleaning, organizing, child-rearing, and active empathy - jobs that can be done by anyone needing to work for low wages. These roles are seen as boring and unadventurous, left to the supposed weakest-minded of society, because they're so simple that anyone could do it.
But not everyone can do it. Not everyone has the ability to nurture and create environments for others to succeed and rest in - And, when these roles are filled by outside workers who do not have an emotional connection to the family home, it is not effective; because the main aspect driving the duty behind fulfilling these roles is Love. That love holds a safe-space which can be felt by anyone who enters into it. This is why beloved Nonnas and Nannies, who live with families whose parents work outside the home, become vital for those families to flourish. It is the divine feminine (of any gender) that embodies compassion and intuition, fostering life, restoration, and emotional connection. Unlike the “doing” and “fixing” energies of the divine masculine, this caretaking aspect is about “being”, “allowing”, and providing unconditional support.
When a caretaker/homemaker is taken for granted (taken advantage of), they become undervalued and overwhelmed - creating a chaotic space. When a caretaker/homemaker is respected (supported), their homes are a testament to high value living, regulated nervous systems, and a joy to be in.
Who's gonna do it? Someone's gotta do it. And those who choose to do it, unforced, have made a choice based on love and connection (Matriarchy) - That choice may not make money, win awards, or look cool, but it is fundamental to the growth, success, and happiness of all in their care. That kind of winning is the greatest reward.
