Day 72 - The Plateau

The dreaded Plateau.  I just hit it, earlier than I would've thought. It seems with the quick weight loss (I've been intermittent fasting, cutting out snacks and exercising) some extra effort is needed at this point. However, I just came across an article that states Cheat Days are important! Ah-ha! Of course I immediately went to that solution.  The important thing for my health journey is strength and endurance, so the weight loss is secondary - but when you see dramatic changes in your body, your mind automatically wants to keep going in the same direction. This is about a long haul, not short-term benefits (I keep reminding myself).  I'm not a calorie counter. It's a hassle and something I don't want to do, but I can assume that certain foods and portions are loaded with calories, so I consider this now. In the past, I didn't even think about it and over time larger portions and seconds of a particularly yummy meal became habit.  I'm also considering t...

Day 64 - A Case for Vanity

" Vanity is the quality of having too much pride one's appearance or accomplishments or a bathroom cabinet that has a mirror and a sink. An example of vanity is a girl thinking she is the prettiest in the entire school. An example of vanity is where a woman might put on her makeup."  The above quote is on the top of a Google search on vanity. Really? A mirror and a sink? A woman putting on her makeup?  Be A Lady They Said Be a lady they said. Your skirt is too short. Your shirt is too low. Your pants are too tight. Don’t show so much skin. Don’t show your thighs. Don’t show your breasts. Don’t show your midriff. Don’t show your cleavage. Don’t show your underwear. Don’t show your shoulders. Cover up. Leave something to the imagination. Dress modestly. Don’t be a temptress. Men can’t control themselves. Men have needs. You look frumpy. Loosen up. Show some skin. Look sexy. Look hot. Don’t be so provocative. You...

Day 57 - Aging without Losing it!

"There IS a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will have truly defeated 'age'." ~~Sophia Loren When we hit adulthood in our 20s, there is a sense of relief - you no longer have to do what your told, you no longer have to ask permissions, you are free to make decisions and mistakes on your own. Although, many of us ask advice from our parents, grandparents, and older generations, because we understand that with experience comes wisdom/knowledge/perspective... When we hit what I now consider the 'real' adulthood in our 30s, there is a further sense of relief - you have now gained some insight into your own being and are fully functioning with the confidence of some lived experience. And we still seek advice, not just from older generations but from our peers. When we hit maturity in our 40s, there is a certain sense of responsibility tow...

Day 51 - Form & Function

"I inhabit my body with inexpressible satisfaction; both its weariness and its refreshments - sweet to me" ~Thoreau  The mind-body connection was for me a metaphysical expedition in a happenstance vessel. In other words, mind over matter, our psychological and spiritual awareness affects our physical health - which I still believe. However, reversing that notion to include its opposite has been a eureka moment, meaning our physical awareness also affects our psychological and spiritual health. I heard it all the time, understood it on an intellectual level, but never on a physical one, until now.  The symbiotic relationship between consciousness and corporeal existence is always there, whether we think about it or not. The choices we make create how we function in our form, and our form facilitates how we function in the world. "The brain and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine and immune systems, and indeed, all the organs of our body a...

Day 46 - Mindset - Setting up your Mind

We've all heard about the Law of Attraction - I believe it because I consciously use it and see it in action, it doesn't matter whether anyone else believes it.  My 10 year old daughter loves to write. I can barely drag her away from writing to get her to do the schoolwork assigned by her online teacher. She has over 21,000 likes on a story she wrote a month ago. For her, the acceptance by others proves that she is indeed a good writer. The fact that she made the effort and took the plunge to put her story out there was the action required to attract the desired result. A 10 year old does not have to believe in the Law of Attraction to make it work. The mind is already working to create the things you think about - whether you like it or not. What a 10 year old doesn't have to contend with as much as adults is negative self-talk, the complaining and focus on what is lacking.   The mind, like the body, is an expression of You. You are not your mind or your body - th...
