Common Ground in a Groundless World

Many years ago, in a land most don't remember, was written the death certificate for Common Sense - it was said that Common Sense was survived by 4 stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, I Want My Rights, I Want It Now, and I’m A Victim.

Common Sense has long passed, while the step brothers have taken over all corners of the mad world. But, Common Ground will never die; and it is with this foundational structure, the supreme being of human nature, that we may find the long lost descendants of Common Sense: Hope, Faith, Charity, and Love. These descendants furtively imbue the daily lives of every single person on this planet - and that is where we stash our innermost ideal; yearning for a better world.

The problem with trying to create 'a better world' is that Common Sense's wicked stepsisters, Fear, Rage, Blame, and Despair, were unacknowledged in the Will and have been furious ever since. They are now extremely loud and obnoxious; so blaring that the faint calls for calm-in-sense, suffocating underneath the stepsister's pervasive blanket, have all but whispered their last breath.

The lingering exasperation of self-pity and egomaniacal tendencies call to us like sirens in a sea of confusion; the cycle of madness demands a spoke in the wheel. But, our ancestors have taught us to protest and detest, object and deject - it may work in the short term, selfish gains and immediate gratification, but what about the long term? It may just be that we unwittingly trick ourselves to keep plodding along, re-birthing insanity's lineage ad nauseam... For some reason, it's easier to fall into well-laid traps of bad habit than it is to free ourselves from our own self-imposed delirium. You can't fight fire with fire.

It's time to gather again in a celebration of life - where the offspring from the union of Common Sense and Common Ground can see each other for who they really are. Everyone needs to be recognized and accepted; good, bad and indifferent. At the wake, we will Hope for a better world, have Faith in ourselves, find Charity in our hearts, and Love unconditionally. These long lost descendants have always been around, quietly establishing in back of our judgements for a chance to be noticed through the bedlam of mindless chatter - That mindless chatter unfortunately informs heedless choices, and the revolution of revolutions continues. It's time to stop rebelling against our own nature, find mutual understanding, and identify rationality.

When our grief for the death of Common Sense wanes, Common Ground will sit us on its knee like an omnipotent Grandmother, making sure we have to tools to build a better world, despite the clamour of adverse relations vying for attention. We don't need land beneath our feet to be grounded, walk with Her and listen to the silent salience; stability starts and stops with personal responsibility. Rest in Peace, even when you're alive.
